When teenagers and adults become so attracted with somebody of the opposite sex, they often say that they are in love with that particular person. A lot of people say that they love someone who can’t be compared with anyone else in this world, the one who makes them happy like no other else can, the one whom they want to be with for the rest of their life and the one that they can never live without, but when asked about the meaning of love, different answers arise from them which doesn’t give us any assurance or an exact answer of what love really is.

            As what I have said earlier , no one has ever arrived at a truly satisfactory definition of love. As an attempt to explain the meaning of love, there have been categories that were made in order to classify the different kinds of the so-called “lovers” to observe them in the way they act in accordance to the particular category where they belong. Love is not just limited to the strange and beautiful feeling that exists between a husband and a wife. It can also be felt by a person towards the people who are special to him but in a different level or a different kind of love. Love can be classified as agapic, manic, romantic, pragmatic and ludic lover. A person can always love anyone or even anything but this feeling of love can be expressed in different ways.

            With the ingenuity and with the help of the clients of Scott Peck who is a Psychologist by profession, he defines love as the will to extend one’s self for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth. Love is not just the desire of having someone to be with because the genuine purpose of loving is to nurture the spiritual growth of a specific person - the totality of the being of the person. Thus, this means that if the feeling of love is real,then there is never any selfish intention that goes along with it because real love is directed towards the growth of the other and not just an opporunity to feed one’s selfish desires. One good example worthy to be mentioned is purity. A person who really loves someone would not cause his/her partner to destroy his/her purity. A person who really loves would take care of his/her partner’s life in a totality. It has always been a misconcpetion that love can bre proven by giving up one’s purity to the other. Always remember that true love is never selfish. As a lover, you have this responsibility to make your partner a better person. With this I realized that holding your patner’s freedom and keeping her away from his/her friends or usual social life is never love but selfishness. Of course a person needs to mingle and socialize with others because it is through this that one can learn about life.

        According to Scott Peck, there are five elements which constitute love:

1.      Love has an end for spiritual growth.

2.      Love is a circular process. (It is a process wherein a person extends oneself to the other for the purpose of the other person’s personal growth. And in the same way in extending ourselves, we not only enhance the other person but also ourselves.)

3.      Love must have self love first. (Of course we can never love someone without knowing how to love ourselves first. You can not give what you don’t have. How can you give love if you don’t what love really is or how love feels? Knowing that love is extending ourselves to another person, this means that we are extending a particular feeling that already exists in ourselves.)

4.      Love entails effort. (The fact that loving is extending oneself is already a form of effort. There should be an effort coming from a person directed towards the other in order to let him/her know that he/she is special and important and that she is being loved by you. As the cliche goes ‘actions speak louder than words.’)

5.      Love is an act of the will. (It is a manifestation of the desire to nurture another person’s spiritual growth that comes from one’s own self. Will also implies choice. A person is not required to love. He chooses to love. No matter how attracted you are to someone, it can never deepen into a more intimate feeling between the both of you if we choose not to love or if we choose not to make a move.)

    After 48 years(char!), The Generoso Bridge or also known as the "Bankerohan Bridge" urgently needed major repair following its collapse because of deterioration. Well according to the  Department of Public Works and Highways(DPWH) the Bridge will be fully operational in August 2008, so this would be a big relief to all the travelers who pass by the bridge. 

    Based on my personal experience, it takes an hour to cross the brige, so can you imagine the hassle on the part of the travelers?  Not only does it snatch away much of your precious time but also it brings you discomfort due to dust and smoke emitted from the vehicles. By the time you reach your destination, you no longer feel fresh, thus, affect your work productivity.

    Something just popped into my mind as I laid in my bed and thought about the empty space beside me. As I reached my hand to cover the space I realized that I was with no one but I. This aloneness may have dragged the word ‘emo’ into my system. With no one to talk to and instead of indulging myself to mere introspection, I opted to make use of writing as the mode of expressing the thoughts lingering at the back of my mind. These seems to be the questions that bothers me a lot: When can you consider yourself as an emo or getting emo? Can i be considered as one of those emo people in this world despite the fact that i currently have a happy relationship with a steady girlfriend? What does emo really mean? When does emo really apply? Is emo applicable only for lonely singles who seek attention and care or can it be used to describe anyone who feels like expressing their emotions?

    As much as I would want to make another write up for the blog, my brain cells just aren’t working. Well let me dissect the contributing factors, first of which is the bad weather, it is freezing cold and the only thing that I would want to do is hide inside my blanket. Another reason could also be because of a very tiring trip from work to our house which took me almost an hour of travel. Nevertheless, I could not afford to sleep without dropping by and checking on my new found friend “my blog”.
