Joaquin Phoenix Shocks With Retirement Announcement

Joaquin Phoenix, who turned 34 years old just yesterday, stunned E! Online reporter Jason Kennedy with the announcement that he would be retiring from acting. The two-time Oscar nominee stated this on the red carpet at a Monday benefit for the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps, a charity founded by Paul Newman.

Phoenix said that "Two Lovers," his upcoming romantic drama with Gwyneth Paltrow and Vinessa Shaw, will be his final on-screen role.

Spike Lee film angers Italy’s surviving partisans

Film director Spike Lee has set off a storm in Italy with a movie about black American soldiers fighting alongside Italian partisans in World War Two.

Surviving members of the resistance to the Nazi occupation of Italy have taken issue with "Miracle at St. Anna" ahead of the film’s Italian release on Friday, distributing protest flyers and accusing Lee of distorting history.

Lee has said he wanted to set the record straight about the role played by black U.S. soldiers in the war. The film is based on a novel by James McBride and focuses on the all-black 92nd Buffalo Division which helped liberate Italy in 1944-45.

He spent the last five years working on his dream project, an adaptation of the French sci-fi novel "Babylon Babies," got a Hollywood studio to co-finance it, and scored a big American movie star to headline it. So now that the movie is coming out, why is he so angry?

Hancock is definitely a very entertaining movie to watch. With side-effects that seemed to be so real on screen, it has portrayed a unique type of superhero who then was an alcoholic and despicable immortal and later on turned out to be a real hero with the intention of fighting crimes to promote peace for his fellow Angelinos with the help of his new friend Ray, a PR man, whom he saved from being crushed by an incoming train in the railway.

A**HOLE vs CRAZY

The relationship of these two extraordinary entities (Hancock and Mary), who seem to be raged when called by ‘a**hole’ and ‘crazy’ respectively, provide the twist of the movie’s plot. After decades of being away from each other fate seems to find its way of keeping them together but as what Mary (Charlize Theron) said in the movie:

“Fate doesn’t decide everything..People get to choose.” And through them I can say that this movie is actually a love story also though not clearly defined because of their personal choices of respecting each others’ present life and happiness.
